چکیده

Multi-replicA decoding using correlation baSed LocAlisAtion (MARSALA) is a recent random access method for satellite communications. It follows the multiple transmission and interference cancellation scheme of Contention Resolution Diversity Slotted Aloha (CRDSA). Besides, at the receiver side, MARSALA uses autocorrelation to localise replicas of a same packet so as to combine them. This signal combination increases the decoding probability of the packet, especially in case of collisions. Previous work has shown good performance of MARSALA with an assumption of perfect signal combination. However, phase and timing parameters are unknown at the receiver and they are different for the replicas on separate time slots . In this paper, we describe a method to estimate and compensate the timing and phase differences between the replicas prior to signal combination. We also propose to enhance the signal combination by using the principle of Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC). Then, we evaluate the impact of synchronisation errors on MARSALA using our estimation method. We also assess the performance gain achieved with MRC. Finally we compare the performance of MARSALA and CRDSA in various scenarios.

An Overview of MC-CDMA Synchronisation Sensitivity

This paper presents an overview of the effect of synchronisation errors on MCCDMA performance in downlink communications. We distinguish two types of synchronisation errors: carrier phase errors and timing errors. We show that the MC-CDMA system is very sensitive to a carrier frequency offset or a clock frequency offset. For a maximal load, carrier phase jitter and timing jitter give rise to a ...

Performance Evaluation of Demodulation Methods: a Combinatorial Approach

Modulation, i.e. transforming a numeric signal into a wave form, is a technique of main interest in a number of ingeneering domains (computer networks, mobile communications, satellite transmissions, ) as well as the important subject of studies in signal processing (cf Chapter 5 of [13]). One of the most important problems in this area is to be able to evaluate the performance characteristics ...

Attitude Synchronization Control in Satellite Formation Flying in the Presence of States Measurement Errors

This paper presents a novel attitude synchronization framework for tracking control of multiple identical/heterogeneous satellites in formation flying with connected communication graph. The main contribution of the paper is considering sensors' measurement error to derive control gains. Moreover, the proposed strategy need no angular velocity communication. Nevertheless, the tracking synchroni...

Evaluation of LDPC Forward Error Correction Schemes for Telemetry Satellite Systems

This paper evaluates the proposed implementation of short length low density parity check (LDPC) codes within the telemetry space protocol. Due to the varying orbital patterns of low earth orbit (LEO) satellites, limited communication time windows need to be optimised to maximise data throughput. Most popular connection oriented protocols focus on correcting congestion related link errors, but ...

Performance evaluation of modulation methods: a combinatorial approach

Modulating a numeric signal corresponds to the fact of transforming the digital sequence that represents it, into a wave form. Modulation is therefore clearly a technique of main interest in a number of ingeneering domains such as computer networks, mobile communications, satellite transmissions, television diffusion, etc. Due to their practical importance, modulation methods were therefore wid...
